Organ donation drive - Million donor project
In March 2015, kidney donor Anil Srivatsa and his brother Arjun, who received the kidney, started The Gift of Life Adventure series with the goal to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of organ donation.
The first adventure they undertook was to cycle around Spain for 6 months, followed by then driving from Bangalore to Scotland in April 2016. Lycamobile was a proud sponsor of the original drive and now the brothers are driving 12,000km from Italy to Dubai.
Currently, there are more people in need of an organ than there are organ donors and Anil’s vision is to reverse this. His aim is to sign up 1 million donors. To help, an app has been developed that, once downloaded, initiates a conversation with families about the importance of organ donation.
The NHS share the same vision and urge all healthy people to help save someone’s life by joining their Organ Donor register. Sadly, BAME communities made up just 4% of donors in 2014/15. This is in part due to the fact that there is little awareness about organ donation within these communities.
The team are scheduled to reach their destination by the end of February and you can stay updated with the Drive by following us on Facebook (Lycamobile UK) and Twitter (@LycamobileUK). Additionally, our radio stations, Lyca Radio 1458 and Lyca Dilse 1035, are giving regular updates and will feature live interviews with Anil.
Lycamobile is acting as the official roaming partner, meaning Anil and his team can stay connected with family and friends and update followers without paying roaming fees. You can find out more about our unbeatable national and international offers here.
