Lycamobile partners with Telenet and buys Ortel Mobile (Belgium)

Lycamobile, the world’s largest international mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), announces the acquisition of Ortel Mobile NV (“Ortel”), from entertainment and telecommunications provider Telenet Group BVBA (“Telenet”), strengthening Lycamobile’s position as the largest MVNO in Belgium and significantly enhancing its customer offering in the region.

Prior to the acquisition, Lycamobile was already the largest MVNO operating in Belgium, accounting for around 37 percent of all virtual operator SIM cards in Belgium, based on numbers for Q3 2016, while Ortel followed in second place . The addition of Ortel Mobile NV, a direct subsidiary of Telenet (previously BASE Company NV, “BASE”) and provider of international prepaid mobile telephony solutions in Belgium, will increase Lycamobile’s total customer base in the region to 1 million, and will offer increased access to national as well as international deals, at the most competitive prices.

Further to this, Lycamobile also announces that it has entered into a new MVNO partnership agreement with Telenet, further expanding its regional offering by providing customers with access to Telenet’s mobile network.
