Lycamobile launches 4G in Australia

Lycamobile Launches 4G in Australia through Expanded Agreement with Telstra Wholesale

Lycamobile, the world’s largest international mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), has today announced the launch of 4G data services across its Australian network, through the expansion of the company’s partnership with Australia’s leading telecommunications services wholesaler, Telstra Wholesale.

The new deal with Telstra Wholesale means that Lycamobile’s expanded service will provide a 4G coverage footprint of 95% of the Australian population and a combined 4G and 3G coverage footprint of 98.8%, covering a total of 1.59 million square kilometres. 4G will enrich Lycamobile’s Australian mobile offering and enhance customer experience. As Lycamobile continues to expand into a number of new territories worldwide, the roll-out of 4G in Australia underlines the company’s commitment to sustained investment in its existing markets and customers.

Lycamobile launched in Australia in November 2010, originally supplying access to Telstra’s 2G network. As Lycamobile’s network in Australia continues to improve, 2G will become unavailable by the end of this year, so the new 4G offering presents the perfect opportunity for customers to upgrade to a handset compatible with both 3G and 4G.

Lyca Group Chairman Allirajah Subaskaran said, “Through our extended relationship with Telstra Wholesale, we are delighted to be able to offer 4G services to our Australian customers. As Lycamobile continues to expand globally, we are working hard to develop our product offering and maintain our commitment to customer experience as we further our goal of connecting communities and bringing people together across the world.”

Telstra Wholesale Executive Director, Sales, Glenn Osborne said, “We are looking forward to working with Lycamobile to bring 4G to more customers across Australia. Telstra has a longstanding partnership with Lycamobile, and we are pleased to support them in expanding their offering to include 4G services alongside the existing high quality 3G product.”
