Allirajah Subaskaran is the Founder and Chairman of the Lycatel and Lycamobile Group of companies. Subaskaran is a high profile industry thought leader, a visionary and entrepreneur with over 18 years entrepreneurial experience in the telecommunications industry.
Subaskaran founded Lycatel, an international calling card company, with the clear vision of growing the brand into a global leader. Subaskaran’s inspirational leadership spearheaded the company’s growth to 22 markets including, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and the USA. He grew the Lycatel team from 10 to over 1,500 by 2006 and now has over 4,000 multicultural employees.
In 2006 Lycamobile was launched with the chairman’s vision to create a benchmark model for MVNOs with a mission of building the global number one mobile international calling brand. Lycamobile now operates in 22 countries across Europe, Australian and the USA markets with the largest international footprint of any international MVNO. Lycamobile has acquired over 12 million customers in 7 years and will continue to grow its customer base and geographical footprint in 2013 and beyond.
Subaskaran’s business acumen and insight into the needs of ethnic and immigrant communities led him to develop Lycamoney the pre-paid Master card in 2011 enabling customers to have safe and easy access to their funds without paying monthly charges. The Lycamoney pre-paid card supports online account management services, access to ATM machines worldwide and money remittance transactions.
In October 2011 the business that Subaskaran led over 10 years was ranked 36th in the Top Track 250 leading midsized private companies and in 2012 was ranked 2nd in the Top Tech 100 private technology companies by The Sunday Times. This was further highlighted when he received a Gold award for Best Overall Enterprise in 2010 for the outstanding impact he has made throughout the different communities and Platinum Award for Business Person of the Year 2012 at the Asian Achievers Award ceremony. The Asian Voice Political and Public Life awarded Subaskaran in 2011 the 'International Entrepreneur of the Year' award and in 2012 he also received the 'Business in the community' award on behalf of Lycamobile. These awards represent his drive and determination over the past 18 years to develop and lead a successful internationally recognised business.
Subaskaran’s mission is to continue to develop Lycamobile to be the global leader in providing telecommunications, financial services, travel and entertainment products and services to the international ethnic and immigrant communities, ensuring customers are provided with low-cost, high-quality products and services.
In December 2010 Subaskaran founded The Gnanam Foundation in an effort to give back to impoverished communities by providing support to orphans, women and men who've lost their livelihood and also to the elderly who have been abandoned without care. His Foundation has committed £1m over a 4 year period to the British Asian Trust, Prince Charles's charity for South Asia.
Subaskaran is a proud father of three boys and is a member of the Institute of Directors, UK.
