Winners of the Lycamobile Cup 2016-17 visit West Ham United Training Ground with players including Sam Byram, Angelo Ogbonna, Adrián and Ashley Fletcher
LONDON, 7 July 2017: Lycamobile, the world’s largest mobile virtual network operator, and the West Ham United Foundation are delighted to announce the winners of the 2016-17 Lycamobile Cup – Great Baddow High School (U14 category) and St Mary Magdalene Academy (U12 Category) – who as part of their prize today had the opportunity to meet West Ham United players including Sam Byram, Angelo Ogbonna, Adrián and Ashley Fletcher at a West Ham Rush Green Training Ground visit.
This year’s Lycamobile Cup, a youth football tournament launched in 2013 by Lycamobile and the West Ham United Foundation, featured 84 teams from local secondary schools and community centres who competed in a series of competitions over the course of the season, playing across two categories – under 12 (year 7) and under 14 (year 9). The finals took place on 6 May at the London Stadium Community Track and featured a total of six teams from each age category.
Lyca Group Chairman Allirajah Subaskaran commented: "It has been a privilege to be a part of this year’s Lycamobile Cup, an initiative that seeks to bring people together to support and celebrate young sporting talent in the community. Congratulations to the winners of this year’s tournament. We look forward to next year’s competition and continuing our work with the West Ham United Foundation.”
West Ham United Foundation Chief Executive Joseph Lyons said, “We are delighted to be able to reward the two victorious teams with a visit of a lifetime to the West Ham United First Team Training Ground, giving them an opportunity to meet the players and provide them with some inspiration to reach their goals. It’s been fantastic to watch the Lycamobile Cup grow over the last four years, and it has truly caught the imagination of our local youngsters. I look forward to continuing our work with Lycamobile, and watching the tournament grow from strength to strength in the years to come.”
The 2017-18 Lycamobile Cup will launch in October 2017.
