Lycamobile and West Ham United Football Club renew partnership
Lycamobile, the world’s largest mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), has extended its long-running association with West Ham United Football Club and its support for the West Ham United Foundation. The partnership, which began in 2012 focuses on promoting youth football within the local community.
To celebrate the continued partnership, Lycamobile hosted an intimate reception at its Bella Cosa restaurant in Canary Wharf. Guests were welcomed by Lyca Group General Counsel Mohammed Malique, with further speeches being made by Vice-Chairman of West Ham United Baroness Brady CBE and Kerry Downes, Head of Community at West Ham United.
Guests were then entertained by current players Pablo Zabaleta, Adrian and Andriy Yarmolenko as well as club legend Jack Collison. In an extensive Q&A session, the players shared their hopes for the forthcoming season and gave some unique insights into the lives of footballers, the club and the vital community work made possible through the club’s association with Lycamobile.
Founder and Chairman of Lyca Group, Allirajah Subaskaran, and West Ham Chairman, David Gold, were also in attendance, and were joined at the event by staff from Lycamobile, West Ham United, the West Ham United Foundation and several of the West Ham Women’s team.
Central to the partnership to date has been the Lycamobile Cup, which last season celebrated five years of promoting youth football in the community. The competition gives young players from schools in East London and Essex the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play competitive football with the support of up-and-coming members of West Ham United’s academy system.
Commenting on the renewed partnership, Allirajah Subaskaran, Founder and Chairman of Lyca Group, said:
"For Lycamobile, our local community is all important and we are determined to make a positive difference within it. The ongoing partnership we have with West Ham United is key to delivering on this commitment."
"Sport has the ability to empower and inspire local communities and there has been a profound impact resulting from the partnership between Lycamobile and West Ham United. Given this, it was an easy decision for Lycamobile to renew our partnership with West Ham United and continue to promote the game to young players in the local area."
Speaking at the event, Baroness Brady said:
"I am extremely proud of the journey that we have shared together with Lycamobile since 2012. They came on board at a time when we were in the early stages of planning to move into the Olympic Stadium – and have been by our side every step of the way, ever since."
