P1 AquaX World Rankings Set Up Trans-Atlantic Battle
News
British riders fill four of the top five places in the P1 AquaX World Rankings that were announced in Florida earlier this month. Retaining the No. 1 spot is American racer Eric Francis, who moved to the head of the rankings in July.

Powered by Lycamobile together with SONY, the rankings were launched at Daytona Beach in April this year following the success of the P1 race series in its first two seasons. More than 100 personal watercraft racers from the USA and UK who have competed in at least 4 AquaX races qualify to be officially ranked in the system.

P1 chief executive James Durbin explained: “The AquaX racing is extremely competitive on both sides of the Atlantic and we felt there was a need to compare the riders. This will become more important when we add a Singapore championship in April next year, and the World Rankings will form part of the qualification process for the P1 World Championships which will be announced in 2015.”

The new rankings are very much a reflection of the growing interest in the AquaX series in both countries and the rising number of competitors. The system considers a wealth of data in each race - including the strength of the field, conditions on the water, the number of riders in each class, finishing position and how recently the race took place – to identify the most consistent and talented racers.

On being presented with the world number 1 race vest, multiple world and national champion Eric Francis said: “I have been competing for 14 years and this is the best championship I have raced in. AquaX is a tough and enjoyable racing concept and I am proud to be at the top of the World Rankings. I’m determined to retain this position and plan to take on the UK riders on their own turf at some stage in 2015.”

The leading British racers are Tim Batte in 2nd spot and Phil Pope who, in his first year of racing, has charged up the rankings to No. 3. Completing the British quartet in the top five are former world number 1 Dave Huddlestone and top female racer Anya Colley who races in the USA alongside Eric Francis in Team Kawasaki.

The P1 AquaX World Rankings will resume in April next year when the race season gets underway at Daytona Beach in Florida.
